Who we are and What we do!
Metropolitan Washington American Youth Football League was created with the vision that all young people will have the opportunity to become "Great". We take pride in the fact that our program is the end result of the vision of our Board of Directors, who, through it all, has made the determination that the youth of today are our future and we must begin to develop them as leaders of tomorrow through the art of competitive sports. The MPWAYFL is a division of the American Youth Football national program and membership allows us the opportunity to compete for State, Atlantic Region (East Coast) and National Football, Cheer, Dance and Step Championships. There are no geographic boundaries in the MPWAYFL. Parents may choose to play, from year to year, in any Association or any individual team that they so choose (as long as the Association/Individual Team agrees).
Our Service Project
Purpose:
Civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. recognized the power of service to strengthen
communities and achieve common goals. In that vain, President -elect Obama has called for a National
Day of Service and asked each of us to make an ongoing commitment to aid and support our communities.
The aim of this MPWAYFL project is to bring awareness to and teach our young girls and boys the value
of community service. This project also helps our youth gain a sense of responsibility to help one
another and their family - people of all ages and backgrounds will come together to improve lives and
communities.
Mission:
To expose our league, parents, coaches and players to a service-oriented opportunity in the
community that positively impacts our players lives in an effort to develop the "whole" young person.
To develop a healthy respect and responsibility for our communities both now and in the future.
Activity:
In coordination with Prince George's County Park and Planning, each MPWAYFL team, in their
local communities, will identify areas(parks, recreation areas and centers, neighborhoods etc) that
need improvement (trash picked up, leaves raked etc.) All proposed clean up locations, volunteers and
participants should be identified by January 2011.
Results:
This service project will act as a catalyst for the MPWAYFL family to develop into a community
oriented organization. The goal is to grow and develop "Great" young people. MPWAYFL will lead a
County-wide effort of youth organizational involvement in civic responsibility.
